Speaking and Facilitation

I have delivered more than forty national and regional conference presentations since 2015, across NASPA, ACPA, the Association for Student Conduct Administration, the Higher Education Case Management Association, the Southern Association for College Student Affairs, and ACUHO-I, along with campus engagements from small liberal arts colleges through large research universities.

The sessions below are the ones I am asked for most. Each can run as a keynote, a half-day workshop, or a working session with a single team, and each is adapted to the institution before it is delivered. If what you need is not here, tell me what you are facing and I will build it.

Signature sessions

Do You Know Your Students?

Today’s college students arrive with histories, pressures, and expectations that most conduct and care processes were not designed for. This session uses mattering theory and restorative practice to examine how we decide, and who those decisions serve.

For conduct officers, case managers, care teams, and the deans who supervise them.

Mattering in Supervision and Leadership

Most supervisors were promoted for doing the work well and were never taught to supervise. This session builds mattering into supervision and leadership practice: how a person comes to believe they are noticed, needed, and worth investing in, and what a supervisor actually does differently once that is the goal rather than an afterthought. We look at feedback, accountability, delegation, recognition, and the ordinary decisions that tell staff where they stand.

As part of this work, leaders also examine their own practice through an identity-conscious lens, drawing on the framework in Identity-Conscious Supervision in Student Affairs: Building Relationships and Transforming Systems by Robert Brown, Shruti Desai, and Craig Elliott.

For new and mid-level supervisors, divisional leadership teams, and divisions investing in the retention of their own staff. Available as a session or a day-long program.

Mattering During Transitions

Institutions in transition tend to manage the org chart and neglect the people inside it. Drawing on my own moves into new executive seats, this session examines what leaders and their teams need in order to stay whole through a restructure, a search, or a change in direction.

For divisional leadership teams, new executives, and cabinets planning a reorganization.

Student Conduct Board Training

Hearing panels make consequential decisions with limited training and constant turnover. This session prepares board members and hearing officers to run a process that holds: reading a policy the way it will be read on appeal, weighing evidence, recognizing where their own assumptions enter the room, questioning without interrogating, and writing outcomes that explain themselves. Delivered as annual onboarding or as a mid-year refresh, and built around your institution’s own code rather than a generic model.

For conduct board members, faculty and staff panelists, student panelists, appellate officers, and the conduct professionals who train them.

Case Management in Our Current Climate

Case management has absorbed responsibilities the field never formally assigned it, under legal and political conditions that keep shifting. This session covers what has actually changed, where the real exposure sits, and how to build a process that holds up under scrutiny.

For case management teams, CARE and behavioral intervention teams, and student support staff.

Black Bodies and Title IX

Title IX processes are applied to real bodies, and race shapes how those processes land at every stage from report through outcome. This session examines where discretion enters the process, what happens to Black students when it does, and what equitable practice requires of the people holding that discretion.

For Title IX coordinators and deputies, investigators, hearing panels, and compliance staff.

LGBT Bodies and Title IX

The same process, a different set of blind spots. This session examines how Title IX practice serves and fails LGBTQ students, from intake language through supportive measures, and what it takes to build a process that does not require a student to explain themselves twice before it can help them.

For Title IX coordinators and deputies, investigators, hearing panels, and student support staff.

Team In-Service Sessions

A working session built for one team and one moment rather than for a topic. A division absorbing a reorganization. An office learning to work under new leadership. A staff carrying a hard year that nobody has named out loud. We start from what the team is actually facing, and I design the session with the supervisor beforehand so the day does the work the team needs rather than the work a catalog description promised.

For individual offices, functional areas, and full divisions. Half day or full day, on site or remote.

Booking

Sessions are customized to the institution, the audience, and the moment. I work with campuses and organizations facing budget constraints, so if the format matters more than the length, say so and we will find something workable.
